Enterococcus faecium and Bacillus velezensis
The gut-friendly bacteria Enterococcus faecium and Bacillus velezensis bring your dog or cat's gut flora back into balance. Both strains are officially approved in the EU as a zootechnical additive (category “gut flora stabilizers”) and both survive stomach acid. They create an environment in which good bacteria, such as lactic acid bacteria, thrive and harmful bacteria, such as Streptococci and Salmonella, are displaced.

Enterococcus faecium: contains coating (protective layer), fairly stomach acid-resistant, always alive, vegetative (not sporulating), active directly in the small and large intestine
Bacillus velezensis: spore-former, survives stomach acid almost 100%, endospores, only active in the small intestine (after germination).

In short: Bacillus velezensis is a “sleeping” spore that only wakes up in the gut; Enterococcus faecium is already awake and fights its way through the stomach. An ideal combination that complements each other. And so both are included in our probiotic tablets for dogs and cats.

Probiotics: Enterococcus faecium DSM 10663/NCIMB 10415 and Bacillus velezensis DSM 15544, gut flora stabilizers, gut-friendly bacteria that survive the entire gastrointestinal tract. Both gut-friendly bacteria are registered with the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), which guarantees a safe and high-quality product for your pet.
Mannan-oligosaccharides (MOS): prebiotic fibers derived from the cell walls of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, with prebiotic and immunostimulating properties. They positively modulate gut flora and promote the growth of beneficial gut bacteria.
Fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS): prebiotic fibers that promote the growth of friendly gut bacteria and can contribute to healthy digestion and the general health of your dog and/or cat.
Inulin: a prebiotic that promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria in the intestines.
Psyllium (psyllium husk): promotes bowel regularity thanks to its ability to absorb water and form a gel-like mass.
Matricaria recutita extract (chamomile extract): supports the stomach, intestines, and digestion.
Yeast (prebiotic): yeast with devitalized cells of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (non-living microorganisms), enriched with vitamins and nutrients.

Why can probiotics also be interesting?
Both dewormers (ask your veterinarian) and/or Giardia itself can cause damage to the intestinal wall and disrupt gut flora. For this reason, animals that have ever had Giardia in their lives often remain sensitive in the gastrointestinal tract for life. Our BF® Probiotic products, whether liquid, tablet, or treat, offer the necessary support for this.

Probiotics can help dogs and cats with food allergies, as they can strengthen the immune system and balance gut flora, which may increase resistance to allergens. This can reduce allergic symptoms. However, it may take some time before an effect is noticeable (3-8 weeks), and not every probiotic works for every dog and/or cat.

Please note: To obtain approval from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), a raw material, in this case a bacterium (probiotic), must meet certain criteria for safety and effectiveness. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) protects consumers, animals, and the environment by providing independent scientific advice on risks in the food chain. Currently, there are only a few probiotics approved by the European Union Register of Feed Additives (EFSA) as gut flora stabilizers for pets, including our Bacillus velezensis DSM 15544 and Enterococcus faecium DSM 10663/NCIMB 10415. Studies confirm that both bacteria have a proven beneficial effect on four-legged friends. Research on dogs and cats in animal shelters (an environment with high acute stress) showed that the administration of E. faecium NCIMB 10415 significantly reduced the incidence and duration of acute diarrhea and lowered the pH value in the intestines: the bacterium produces lactic acid, which lowers the pH level in the intestines. This inhibits the growth of pathogenic (disease-causing) bacteria such as Salmonella and Escherichia coli. Bacillus velezensis DSM 15544 is very useful in the diet of four-legged friends who easily suffer from a sensitive or disturbed digestion or loose stools.
