Kittens under 4 months: From 4 or 5 weeks old, a kitten can be fed dry food. First, soak this dry food in a little warm water or kitten formula. Then gradually reduce the amount of liquid until your kitten is eating only dry food.

Kittens over four months old: From the time your kitten has its permanent teeth until it's about a year old, your cat's nutritional needs remain roughly the same. Only the daily amounts gradually increase until it reaches adulthood.

Generally, the transition to adult food should begin at 12 months. However, some cats may transition sooner depending on the cat, breed, activity level, etc. For kittens that have already been "neutered," it can sometimes be wise to transition sooner if they are overweight and feeding them slightly less doesn't help.
