Packaging and storage methods significantly impact the quality and shelf life of cold-pressed oil, and therefore the effectiveness of the dietary supplement. If salmon oil is not stored properly, its quality will also be compromised. All cold-pressed oils, including salmon oil, should be stored in a cool, dark place and sealed airtight.

Our BF®Petfood OMEGA+ salmon oil bottle is airtight by design. This is important to maintain the quality of the nutritional supplement. Store sensitive oils like salmon oil in a cool, dry place, for example, in the refrigerator or cellar. What's special about salmon oil is that you can also freeze it. This way, salmon oil has a shelf life of up to 6 months and can be used as a nutritional supplement for a long time.

Some facts about our pure Scottish Salmon Oil at a glance:
After visiting several salmon farms, we consciously opted for pure salmon oil derived from wild Scottish salmon intended for human consumption. This flavorful wild salmon is strictly monitored for undesirable substances (heavy metals, PCBs, and dioxins) after harvest, as it is considered human food.
• The migratory wild salmon are harvested a maximum of five days per week throughout the season, ensuring the sustainability of the stocks. Our Scottish partner oversees all aspects of production, from catching to shipping. The award of PGI status represents long-awaited recognition for both the salmon and the few remaining Scottish salmon netters. PGI accreditation befits a product of unparalleled quality and uniqueness. The company adheres to strict Scottish Government regulations.
• Cold-pressing* Scottish wild salmon takes place at a low temperature, which preserves the nutritional values in the salmon oil and ensures optimal effectiveness. This also results in a highly concentrated salmon oil, requiring a smaller dosage than with non-cold-pressed salmon and fish oil. Many salmon and fish oils are made by cooking the fish, with the major disadvantage that this contains a high amount of saturated fatty acids and therefore does not produce the same results. Unrefined oil can be cloudy. Slight cloudiness or sediment indicates environmentally friendly, high-quality pressing.
Wild salmon has plenty of space, unlike many farmed salmon, and is given sufficient time to grow. Furthermore, no synthetic raw materials, colorants, or growth agents are used, so marine life is not harmed as is often the case with farmed salmon. However, the number of wild salmon caught is significantly lower than the number of farmed salmon, and therefore the quality and price are also higher.
• The most important omega-3 fatty acids are EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), which are found in oily cold-water fish such as salmon, mackerel, and tuna. BF® Scottish Salmon Oil contains 18.7% omega-3 fatty acids (EPA/DHA 7.5%/8.8%) and 4.9% omega-6 fatty acids. The energy value is 3,710 kJ/100 g.
•BF® Scottish Salmon Oil contains rosemary as a natural preservative and is packaged in an opaque pump bottle and jerry can, ensuring optimal protection against oxidation by oxygen, moisture, and/or light. After opening, store the salmon oil in a cool, dark place or in the refrigerator.
• Each batch is tested for heavy metals, dioxins, and PCBs before delivery and is inspected under GMP+ and is always traceable. This is an additional quality assurance covered by our Green Guarantee logo.
• Note! Salmon oil from fresh wild Scottish salmon naturally contains a high percentage of antioxidants such as asthaxanthin. This substance belongs to the group of carotenoids that gives Scottish salmon oil its dark red color. Light, often refined and treated, salmon oil often contains little asthaxanthin. Salmon oil high in asthaxanthin protects Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids for much longer.
